Ikenaga Named Big West Defensive Player of the Week

University of Hawai'i at Manoa Athletics

Honolulu, HI –

Hawai’i junior defensive back Darius Ikenaga (Kahuku, O‘ahu/Kahuku HS) was named the Big West Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for his performance in the Rainbow Warriors’ 31-28 come-from-behind win over San Diego State on Saturday night at Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex.

Ikenaga had an impressive stat line against the Aztecs, finishing with four tackles, two interceptions, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. SDSU only managed 6-of-20 (30.0 percent) on third-down conversions as Ikenaga was directly involved in two of the stops on third down. Ikenaga’s forced fumble and fumble recovery both came in the fourth quarter, leading to 10 UH points and a 14-point swing in the game. Ikenaga’s second interception with 2:26 remaining sealed the win for the Rainbow Warriors.

This is the second time in his career that Ikenaga has received this honor. He also earned Big West Defensive Player of the Week after the New Mexico State game on Sept. 10
